Regenacalm Pro 3% Retinol Serum Review

Regenacalm Plus 3% retinol serum bottle on sink

Hi Beauties,

I am super excited to be reviewing the brand new Regenacalm 3% retinol serum by FaceTheory. If you happen to follow my blog, you will know that i am a huge fan of FaceTheory beauty products. My absolute fave skincare product by FaceTheory is the Regenacalm retinol, which i reviewed previously here. Ever since starting to use the Regenacalm retinol serum on my face, i have noticed smoother skin and, believe it or not, less wrinkles! Apart from those obviously outstanding results, i almost immediately noticed less red marks and hyperpigmentation. This was a huge breakthrough for me as i have been trying to find a holy grail product to help with the reduction of red marks for years and years.

So far i have been using their original Regenacalm 2% retinol serum for around 5 months and i have noticeably clearer skin that seems to be getting better all the time.

After suffering from acne for most of my teens, twenties and even into my thirties, i have been left with a fair amount of acne scars. The only way i managed to get my hormonal acne under control was by switching to natural products.

Now i can finally say, it is time to start working on the anti-ageing skincare regime. I am quite amazed at how quickly the Regenacalm worked, as i noticed visible results within a couple of days!

I had tried retinol once in my early twenties as prescribed by a dermatologist but it was extremely harsh and caused my skin to flake and become red and irritated. I have somewhat sensitive skin and i just couldn’t bear to continue with the Retin A, which is the commonly prescribed medical grade prescription retinol.

My cousin has a similar skin type to me but she persevered with it and now has immaculate skin. This often made me consider trying it again but i couldn’t bear the thought of that irritation on my skin. I decided to forgo the retinol back then and focus on getting my acne under control. I figured i could always try retinol again some time once my acne cleared up.

Unfortunately, it took me many years of constant trial and error to finally get rid of my adult acne. It turns out that the simpler and more natural route was the way to go all along. I always considered that my skin was in need of something stronger than natural ingredients because i considered it as ‘problem skin’.

I had been very self conscious about it and was forever trying new products on the market. If i didn’t see results within a couple of weeks i would move on to something else. I spent an absolute fortune trying just about everything on my skin, except what was staring me in the face all along.

I began making my own face masks at home with simple, natural ingredients such as honey, cinnamon, oats, sugar and other kitchen basics. My skin began to clear and i was over the moon. I realised that i needed to start looking into natural products as a solution.

I began trying natural skincare brands as opposed to the usual harsh chemical-laden kind. I soon realised that all along, it was just what my skin needed. To my amazement, my skin gradually cleared right up. Ever since swapping to natural skin care, i have never looked back. I have been so successful since making the switch, that i decided to blog about my natural skin care route and that was one of the reasons i set up this blog!

I was delighted to discover FaceTheory as the brand is free from parabens, SLS, SLES and sulphates. It is suitable for sensitive skin due to keeping the irritant level low. They are also vegan and cruelty free.

As noted from their main website, they give nature a helping hand with actives like retinol, stabilized vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

I love that they combine powerful anti-ageing ingredients with natural ingredients and i was ready to try the retinol again so i figured FaceTheory was a good place to start. I have to admit, i was still a little dubious about trying the retinol again after my previous bad experience but i had to give it one last shot.

To my absolute joy, the Regenacalm 2% retinol serum with dill and liquorice was very gentle on my skin and left no irritation whatsoever. It is formulated for use under a moisturiser so the first couple of uses i made sure to moisturise after use.

I forgot to moisturise on the third use, after having a few wines and falling into bed. I noticed that my skin was gleaming and still nicely moisturised the next morning! After that, i began to use it on its own without a moisturiser and found that it was perfectly fine. It wasn’t drying at all, which was amazing to me, since i had been expecting it to make my skin dry and even flaky as per the last time i tried the retinol.

Creamy serum in dropper

Within a week of using their Glycolic acid cleanser in the mornings and the Regenacalm serum at night, my skin was looking fantastic. My hyperpigmentation from the sun and those pesky red marks were fading quickly. I also noticed a reduction in wrinkles around my eyes and forehead.

I literally couldn’t believe my luck. Now i have to say that the Regenacalm serum and my fave Glycolic cleanser are the best skincare products i have ever used.

FACETHEORY GLYCOLIC CLEANSER AND RETINOL BOTTLES

Needless to say, i couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new Regenacalm Pro 3% retinol serum. It has just launched and i had to have it, especially since i was due to replace mine anyway.

It has vitamin C which is also wonderful for the skin and helps protect against the suns rays. You do need to wear a high factor SPF such as 30+ as retinol requires increased sun protection on the skin, as does Glycolic acid. For that reason, i choose to put on the Regenacalm at night as it is stronger, then follow with Glycolic acid in the morning, always using an SPF of 30-50.

It isn’t really advised to use retinol and Glycolic acid at the same time so i advise using them separately for that reason. SPF is an absolute must-have at all times of the year during the daylight, especially when using retinol as it can increase sensitivity to sunlight.

Regenacalm serum on hand

The Regenacalm Pro 3% retinol is a little stronger than the 2% so you only need to apply it to fine lines, areas of hyper pigmentation, dark spots, red marks and blemishes. I have been using a moisturiser on top of it, since it is coming into the colder weather now and it says that it is formulated for use under moisturiser so i will follow the directions for best results. The product is not for use when pregnant or breastfeeding.

The serum is a milky white colour and a creamy consistency. It absorbs easily and isn’t drying or irritating. It is really gentle and i honestly love waking up in the morning to clearer skin. I hate when i forget to use it! I went on holidays for a week and decided not to bring it as i would be in the hot sun every day. I actually really missed it and couldn’t wait to start my lovely night time regime again when i got home. I definitely notice the difference.
