DIY Facial Mist recipes that work!

Hi lovelies,

Today we’re talking facial mist. I haven’t done a good DIY beauty post for a while so i have loads lined up! I thought this DIY facial mist one would be a particularly good one to start with for the summer months. If you’re lucky, you will be having nice weather wherever you are! Either way, facial mists are a big hit nowadays since they seem to have a great effect on the skin. Similar to a toner, they are really refreshing and cooling. They’re also really simple to apply in a hurry and no need for cotton pads so can save you money and time.

If you don’t use a toner or facial mist, you may be keen to try this out and see how much your skin will benefit. A lot of people skip toner or mist. I never used either until recently, when i started doing my own facials and realised the benefit of it. I basically never found a good toner before and they would dry out my skin. It wasn’t until after, that i realised the alcohol in them was the reason for the dryness. I needed to find a good non-alcohol based one. I began using a rose water toner which was natural and therefore my skin didn’t dry out. In fact, my skin started to look better than ever. I immediately noticed after a few days that my pores had shrunk massively. I have open pores, so naturally i was delighted. I wondered if it was just by chance but sure enough, if i didn’t use the toner one night i would notice the difference in my pores the next day. I found that my skin just drank in the toner and it absorbed immediately.

It was great because there was no waiting around for it to sink in for the next layer of skincare. I then noticed after a week or so that my skin had a lovely smoothness to it. My skin can be quite blotchy as its combination. I have an oily t-zone and drier parts that need regular exfoliation, like around the nose and chin area. Its a bit of a nuisance normally but my face looked to be way more toned in general and in better condition then ever! The only annoying thing about using toner, was having to use two cotton pads to apply it. I really enjoyed the feeling of coolness of the toner and i was using two cotton pads to get that nice cool sensation on my face. It sounds odd but it was completely addictive. I was waking up in the morning and i couldn’t wait to apply my toner. And same at night. Theres something really refreshing and comforting about it. You know like the way they give you hot towels on the plane sometimes? Obviously not on all flights but on a long haul flight they give you these hot towels to refresh your skin and it feels ahh-mazing. Well its the same with the toner for me, except even nicer!

The reason my toner stays cool is because it comes in a blue glass bottle and i keep it in a cool place in the bathroom. Another thing i would suggest is that you could put the bottle in the fridge to keep it cool in summer. Once you keep it in the fridge before bringing it out, you can keep it cool in your bag but those are just some suggestions to get that cool blast. Its a great pick-me-up in the morning too, or any time of the day for that matter. You might want to consider trying out the facial mist so you can bring it with you. Obviously its much handier than carrying around a toner and cotton pads. No one would  do that?! The thing i love about having a facial mist is that it has the same properties and effect as a toner, but its portable and you don’t need to waste cotton pads with it. You just spritz it on and glide over your face with your hands and its done! Hey-presto.

I have a few little spray bottles that i bought from Tiger and Penneys/Primark. Im sure you can find them in most poundshops or online, on Amazon or somewhere. They have travel size spray bottles and you can pop them in your bag, cosmetic bag, luggage or anywhere for that matter and they’re grand for freshening up on the go. Its also handy if you don’t have time on your way to work or the school run or whatever. And for the dreaded hangover, they really help to wake you up and fix your skin.

If you go to the gym i would say the cucumber and aloe one is great thing to have on hand. You could bring it with you to use on your face when you sweat and if you’re using one of the water based natural ones, you can use that on the workout machines for spraying before you use. I hate when people leave their sweaty hand prints on the machines at the gym. Eww! Just a thought i had for another possible use.

I am an advocate for natural skincare so these facial and body mists are made from natural ingredients that are easy to find and don’t include any nasty chemicals. I love that they are cheap, easy to make and wonderful for your skin.

Enough rambling on about the awesomeness of facial and body mists so here are the recipes. Give them a try for yourself and see what benefits they can have for your skin. You won’t regret it. So cheap and simple, you might as well give it a go!

CUCUMBER AND ALOE FACIAL MIST:

WHAT YOU NEED:

A CUCUMBER, PEELED AND DICED

A MEDIUM SIZE BOWL

A FORK/WHISK

75 ML DISTILLED / SPRING WATER

CLEAN EMPTY SPRAY BOTTLE

DIRECTIONS:

1  HAVE THE SIEVE AND BOWL READY OR IF USING FABRIC ATTACH THE CHEESECLOTH/MUSLIN AROUND THE BOWL WITH THE PEGS TO ACT AS A SIEVE
