Today i have decided to take a break from the norm and do a little style blog. I simply couldn’t resist the urge to tell you about my latest fab finds! I admit I’m going off the beaten track from my usual blog stuff here, but its totally worth a shout-out!

 

As you may know, if you happen to follow my blog, I’m a huge fan of Eco everything. I truly believe in treating our planet with care. After all, we love it, so why shouldn’t we look after it? Im no tree hugger, but global warming is real and we all know it. Just some of us chose to ignore it. I know how it is, since i myself was in denial or years! I never bothered taking heed of my carbon footprint. Carbon what?? I thought that green living was for the Eco warriors, the ones that tie themselves to trees and live in them so they can’t chop them down. I always assumed those guys were just a bunch of hippies with no homes or something. That was then and now i realise that they were the ones everyone should have been listening to and supporting. I don’t know why up until the last 10-15 years, no one really seemed to worry to much about the planet! I mean, we only have one. For now at least.

 

Consumerism became the norm and our usage of plastics and chemicals, all things detrimental to the environment became commonplace. It was like as if we just completely dismissed any idea that that way of life would take its toll on the planet. Not in our lifetime. But what about our children and our grandchildren and all our descendants after us. Is it fair or is it just plain wrong? I think we know the answer to that! It’s definitely food for thought. We need to be more conscious of our carbon footprint, today more than ever. Its never too late to start and once you do, you will feel so much better in yourself and you can feel proud to be doing your bit for the environment.

 

 

Apart from the obvious recycling of everyday waste and less use of plastics etc. I would like to highlight the importance of recycling your clothes! Now everyone wants to keep up with the latest fashion and styles. Of course we all strive to look our best and keep up to date with trends. Its only natural. The problem with “fast fashion” is that a lot of clothes become fashionable, we wear them for a season, and then they just get dumped! Half the time they probably don’t even get donated to charity or sold, they end up in the dumpster. That is a sad fact of life and seems to be the way of the world these days unfortunately. As maddening as it sounds, I’m sure we are all guilty of it.

 

The clothing industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world and therefore its about time fast fashion made a fast exit. Clever style guru’s have come up with the ideal solution. Why not recycle all these fabrics and make them into beautiful and fashionable stylish garments? All of a sudden the market is being flooded with these brilliant Eco fashion stores. Yipee! Guilt free shopping that is ethical, great for the planet and still has the awesome retail buzz. I understand that thrift shopping and charity shops are not everyones cuppa joe. I get that, i mean sometimes even TK Maxx is a hard slog, rooting through endless bits n bobs and having to spend an hour rooting through the hangers is not ideal. Especially if you’re like me with two babies, in which case that is just not happening at all. Ever!!!!

 

I actually used to love shopping for clothes online but recently i have had a few bad experiences. Main reason being is that I’m out of shape, i still have a Mum-tum which I’m absolutely fine with. Lets be honest here, none of us are that happy with our bodies or ever will be and its hard to get perfectly fitting clothes no matter who you are. I mean, I’ve heard the phrase ‘a perfect ten’ but like what brand are we talking? Miss Selfridge? Size six more like. I have no clue what size i am and i don’t know if i ever will at this stage! That makes shopping online a bit of a nuisance and so when i see clothes sized medium i tend to just assume the average size and hope for the best! Oh dear. As you can imagine there have been a few disasters. Did i ever send them back for being the wrong size? Never in my life. I would convince myself they’ll fit some day, knowing they were never going to see the light of day again. Im sure they ended up in a bin or hopefully a charity shop. So the point of the matter is, online shopping is a bit of a gamble.

 

 

With all these Eco fashion shops cropping up, i have to say I’m intrigued and can’t help observing what is being produced. I personally love anything crafty, such as reinventing an old skirt, dress or blouse, whatever! I have been keeping an eye out. The best part of shopping Eco fashion is that you know it has been ethically sourced. There are way too many stories of slave labour nowadays.

 

Lets look at the other side of the story. I mean, do you really know where your clothes are coming from? Are you sure they haven’t been produced by a child in a sweat factory? Let me tell you that exploitation in the workplace is extremely common. Over-worked and underpaid people, not only children can be subject to slavery, being abused and paid little or nothing in horrific conditions.

 

It is happening all over the world and poor people are being exploited. Now I’m not saying for a minute that all cheap clothes are coming from a sweatshop? But isn’t it refreshing to know where they are coming from, at all? I for one, think it should be mandatory for companies to provide such details on the tags or at least websites so we can rest assured our money is funding good purposes. Moving on…

 

After a few months of randomly checking out ethical clothing stores online, i came across this lovely and refreshing example. By the way, just so you know, i have no affiliation with this company and just happened to stumble upon their beautiful collection one day on an Ethical website. I was actually on the lookout for some comfy, easy to wear basics since i normally live in pyjamas and tracksuits but i was seeking something a bit more playful and elegant. I guess that’s not that hard haha, but i have to be practical about it. Most days i spend lounging around with my baby so i was looking for optimum comfort, clothes that are versatile and something beautiful. Of course i want beautiful clothes, doesn’t everyone?! Stay-at-home-mum or not, i still go to for the odd dinner or lunch thank God!!

 

So i knew i was looking for a needle in a haystack basically, but i was up to the challenge! Thats when i discovered this amazing and simple but absolutely elegant collection. The jewellery is really contemporary but Boho aswell which is my all time fave style. Yippeee! I now want everything they have. Help! Here is a bit about Sololu and how the brand began.
