DIY Himalayan Sea Salt Face and Body Scrub

Here’s a little brief history of Himalayan pink salt and why its so amazing. Around 200 million years ago, crystallised salt beds became covered by lava in the Himalayas. Untouched, having been preserved by snow and ice for so many years, the sea salt has been protected from any kind of pollution. It is basically the best salt on earth. It contains the same 84 trace minerals and elements found in the human body. Here are a few to mention:

Sodium chloride

Sulphate

Calcium

Potassium

Magnesium

Because of its cellular structure, it stores vibrational energy. The minerals in the salt exist in colloidal form which means they are small enough for our cells to absorb. Therefore, this mineral rich sea salt is perfect for exfoliation and or consumption. Its available in most health shops and supermarkets. I will add a link at the end in case you are unable to find it. I did have to go to a health shop to find it so its a little more expensive than standard salt but it is so healthy i am using it instead of standard salt for cooking now. Most people are deficient in minerals, especially magnesium so it is worth swapping!

As you may know, I’m a huge fan of natural scrubs. I am always trying out new recipes and I’m delighted to share this one with you since it really is a brilliant exfoliator, chock full of minerals.

WHAT U NEED:

EQUAL PARTS HIMALAYAN PINK SALT AND COCONUT OIL ( I USED 1 CUP OF EACH )

A GREEN TEA BAG ( MINE HAD GRAPEFRUIT AND PINEAPPLE INFUSED )

ESSENTIAL OIL OF YOUR CHOICE ( I USED CITRUS SINCE I LIKE THE SCENT )

A MICROWAVABLE BOWL

A FORK AND A JAR/CONTAINER WITH A LID

DIRECTIONS:

MELT COCONUT OIL IN THE MICROWAVE FOR 20-30 SECS UNTIL LIQUID

MIX IN THE PINK SALT AND THE CONTENTS OF THE GREEN TEA BAG

ADD IN 3-4 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL OIL PER CUP OF SALT

MIX WELL WITH A FORK

TRANSFER TO THE CONTAINER AND USE IN THE SHOWER OR BATH

THIS CAN BE USED ALONE AS A FACE SCRUB OR AS AN ALL-OVER BODY EXFOLIATOR

You may want to heat up the jar before using again since the coconut oil solidifies depending on the room temperature. I just keep my jar in the shower and run it under the hot water before opening or else under the hot tap in the sink for a bit. It doesn’t take long to melt the outer edges and thats all you need to scoop out. It can also be worked back into oil form in the palms of your hands so its no hassle at all really. Green tea is a great detox for the skin so thats why i have added it, for extra benefit but it can be made without if you don’t have any on hand. Another great thing you can add to this is vitamin C powder if you can get some. The combination works wonderfully as a face mask.

Hope you enjoy x
